About Us
Modular synths for inspiration and improvisation.
Located by the sea in Los Angeles, California, Seaside Modular makes synthesizer modules with a special eye towards generative music. Seaside was founded by Jonas Kaplan, a university professor with a background in cognitive neuroscience, who creates music under the pseudonym Blue Nautilus.
Many of our modules have their roots in Indian Classical music, bringing the sounds of this ancient musical tradition to your electronic system. A key component of Indian Classical music is the emphasis on improvisation. Improvisation is the essence of creativity and spontaneity, but it also benefits from constraints and guardrails. Our instruments are designed to inspire you in your act of creating music, whether it’s to provide a quick melodic line to work with, or a continuous drone to frame your creations.
Modules for VCV Rack are free and open source. These software modules were the testing grounds for hardware. The first module to come to life from this project is Proteus, the generative sequencer with a short attention span.
